Samsung has been busy in the development of transparent LCD display screen, but up until now, we have only seen prototypes of the screen, most recently on their upcoming laptop that featured such a display. However, things are about to change in a big way.
In an announcement earlier today, Samsung confirmed that they started mass-producing these screens this month. As Samsung puts it, they will be the “world’s first company” to do so. In terms of the hardware, users will be able to buy the screens in a traditional black and white or alternatively as a color type. The screens which have a screen size of 22-inches will boast the highest transparency rates in the world. Other features of the screens include a 500:1 contrast ration, a 1,680 x 1050 WSXGA resolution and a transparency rate of more then 15% on the color type and 20% on the black and white type. They will also have USB and HDMI interfaces.
In terms of energy needs, Samsung has stated that these screens will require a tenth of the power of a standard LCD screen that is backlit because the new Samsung screens can use natural sunlight. Although we do not have a launch date just yet, the company has stated that they intend to promote the new screens amongst corporations, advertisers and event organizers.
