Smartphones have been developed to meet the needs of many niche group, but one such group that has been under served are those that want to watch free TV on their handheld device. In some parts of the world, smartphones with such features have had some degree of success, but in North America, this has not been the case.
Samsung Mobile, along with Sprint hope to change this with the introduction of the Samsung Moment. The Moment will offer Sprint customers the opportunity to receive free live digital TV on their smartphone due to the integration of a Mobile DTV Chip. This chip is what will allow the phone to receive live TV programming be it local news and sports, local broadcast channels and emergency alerts.
The Moment also includes a large 3.2-inch AMOLED display screen which is why it was selected to showcase the new chip as the screen offers not just a large screen for watching TV, but the display screen is also said to deliver crisp colors as well as bright pictures outdoor.
