Samsung Galaxy S Uses Corning Gorilla Glass

The Samsung Galaxy S is currently available in the United States by three of the major mobile carriers, each of whom have rebranded the device before sale. The Android phone has a couple of updates that have been announced by Samsung today.

First is DivX certification, but along with this, is the announcement that Corning will supply Gorilla glass for the 4-inch AMOLED display screens. One of the components of Gorilla Glass is alkali-aluminosilicate, a substance that makes this glass much stronger then regular glass. It’s because of this property that several manufacturers are considering deploying Gorilla glass in the screens of their upcoming television sets and now Samsung will add it to their smartphone. The glass is breakable, but it is much more durable and will offer additional protection against scratches and nicks on the display screen.
