Tablets have certainly developed a strong niche within the technology industry and designers are looking at what future technologies can be incorporated into these devices. One such company that is trying to push the envelope is Samsung and in a new video, they have come out with some appetite wetting features of a concept tablet that will have a flexible AMOLED display screen.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen companies predicting that future tablets will have flexible screens. In fact, it’s believed that this will be the natural evolution of tablets, giving them even more a paper type of feel. We already have the ability to “flip” pages in an electronic book or an e-magazine, now imagine being able to roll it up once your done.
Check out their video to get a feel of what their vision of tablets is. The question that remains is just when can we expect to see these devices? It was at the beginning of this year when CES 2011 took place when Samsung highlighted a mobile phone with a 4.5-inch display screen that had a flexible display. With a thickness of only 0.3mm, this was an interesting device, but again, this device was not ready for the real world just yet.
We’ll have to wait and see if we’ll see flexible tablets arrive any time soon or if this is a pipe dream that will keep consumers waiting for several years to come.
