Samsung Chrome OS Netbook Coming

Samsung Australia has confirmed in a recent interview that the electronics giant plans to develop a netbook that will run on the Google Chrome operating system. Details are very sketchy but the timeline for this new netbook appears to be late 2010 unless delays push the launch back into early 2011.

In terms of hardware specifications, the netbook will have the typical hardware configuration that we’ve come to see in many netbooks these days. The Samsung netbook will likely be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1.5MhZ processor speed or above. Additionally, expect to see a 10.1-inch LED display screen, 2GB RAM and at least 64GB of storage space. There is no indication whether this storage space will be in the form of a traditional hard drive or a solid state drive, but the latter may be likely and will depend upon pricing closer to launch date.

The Samsung netbook will also include wireless connectivity through 3G and WiFi, most likely 802.11b/g/n. To round out the specifications will be a 12 hour battery.

We’re still looking at about a year from now before this netbook goes official, so there’s a good chance the features could change, but we’ll keep an eye on this story and update as needed.
