Samsung Electronics, the world’s second-largest handset maker, plans to launch their own app store. The new service will open its doors on September 14, first being available to select European markets (U.K., France and Italy) with plans of expanding service over time to include other key markets such as Asia and the Americas.
There are many electronic companies opening online stores to interact with their customer base, the most notable of which is Apple with their app store for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices but there’s also recent entries such as Nokia with their Ovi Store that was launched in May of this year.
Samsung plans to have about 300 third party software applications available through their store for the Omnia smart phones with an expectation to grow this number to 2000 applications by the end of the year.
