Two months ago, Salesforce.com announced that they were making Chatter publicly available. Today, Salesforce has followed up that announcement by introducing a series of Chatter mobile apps which have been developed for the major mobile players including Android phones, the RIM Blackberry as well as both the Apple iPhone and iPad.
The Chatter service has shown some promise with some 25% of the company’s 82,000 customers now using the free Chatter tool. If you haven’t seen Chatter before, it is reminiscent of the social networking site Facebook but has been developed for businesses.
According to representatives of Salesforce who quote statistical data from ComScore, users are twice as likely to use Facebook on a mobile device then through the web interface. Salesforce extends this rationale to mobile workers, believing that this same stat would be valid for them as well, hence the reason for the emphasis on mobile apps.
