Sagem’s Solar Powered PUMA Phone Launched

Sagem's Solar Powered PUMA Phone Launched

What happens when a sports brand and a French phone maker get together? We get a cool new mobile phone in the Puma phone which has features that are quite different from what we’ve seen so far out of the Mobile World Congress 2010.

The most interesting feature of the Puma phone has to be the solar panel that is situated on the rear of the mobile device. Not only can this phone use solar power to recharge itself, but each time it does you receive instant rewards through points that can then be redeemed at a Puma Store.

In addition to the integrated solar technology, the Puma phone sports a 2.8-inch capacitive TFT touchscreen display that supports a screen resolution of 240×320 pixels. In viewing the features, you can certainly tell that a sports brand had a major hand in the development and design of this handset as it includes a Pedometer, Analogue Stopwatch, Digital Compass as well as GPS bike Speedo and GPS run tracker. Add to this, geotagging support and aGPS and you’ve got great gift idea for someone that enjoys the outdoor lifestyle be it through a day trip to the local park or perhaps a longer camping trip to a national park.

Aside from these unique features mentioned above, the Puma phone also comes with the standard features that we’ve seen with other mobile phones at MWC 2010 such as 3G network support, a 3.2MP digital camera with LED flash, a front facing camera for video conference calls, an integrated FM radio, an “open internet browser,” and in keeping with the spirit of green technology, everything comes packed in “Eco friendly” packaging.

Pricing information is unavailable, but the French handset maker Sagem did state that the Puma will be available throughout Europe around April this year. Availability through Puma online stores as well as other commercial markets will also be coming.
