Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Tab Sells For $300 With Contract

Earlier today, we heard that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will include a super TFT LCD display and now we’re getting some information about possible pricing for the Android tablet. According to Hankil Yoon, a Sumsung product executive, the Galaxy Tab will sell for somewhere between $200-$300. This however will require that you have a service contract with an approved mobile carrier.

The $200-$300 price tag does sound cheap and in fact is less then half the price of the Apple iPad 3G model but the true cost can only be determined once you factor in the cost of a two year service contract. On Verizon, a 250MB/month data plan sells for $40/month or $960 for the two years. In contract, iPad users pay more for their tablet computer upfront but can go on a month to month service plan with prices starting as low as $15/month.

It’s an interesting approach that Samsung is taking to gain some traction in the marketplace, but they will need to try some innovative ideas in order to complete with Apple who released their iPad months in advance, a device which has been developed for better video and web surfing with its big screen. In contract, the Galaxy Tab with its smaller form factor will interest those looking for portability and it also has a pair of cameras, one on the front and one on the back.
