The rumor going around is that Google wants to get into the gaming scene, offering up Internet users another method of spending more of their free time on the Google family of sites. In order to do this, Google will need a partner and the most likely candidate for this partnership is Zynga.
As the makers of Farmville, a highly popular Facebook game, Zynga knows a thing or two about web games. Neither Google or Zynga have gone on the record to confirm this, but it’s believed this partnership will consist of a $100-$200 million investment. Adding more fuel to the fire is a job opening that has opened up at Google for a Product Management Leader, Games.
The move makes sense on the part of Google. The more time users spend on Google, the more information the search engine can collect about a user and this can then be converted into targeted advertising. Of course, by offering up games, Google also hopes to pull some users away from Facebook and this may even connect into another Google project called Google Me which is a Facebook alternative.
