It’s been widely believed that Apple (AAPL) has been looking for some time to add additional US mobile carriers that would support the iPhone and now with the release of the fourth generation iPhone, Apple is more committed then ever to provide options to their customer base.

Mobile carriers in the past that Apple has considered include Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and Sprint (NYSE:S) but the latest rumor making the rounds is that T-Mobile will get the nod for the iPhone 4. As to when this may occur, Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros believes this could be as early as this fall. Wu believes that T-Mobile is the favored carrier because they are a GSM carrier like AT&T and as such, they may be faster then both Sprint and Verizon in releasing the new iPhone.

This is a good move on behalf of Apple. Customers always demand choice and there are valid reasons why some may want to move away from AT&T.
