Let’s be honest, if you ask one hundred people who have heard of Rovio what they make, I would be willing to bet that virtually all of them would say Angry Birds and there is nothing wrong with this. Rovio has made a name for itself because of the incredible success that it has enjoyed with Angry Birds.
In fact, the company has tried to take full advantage of the success of this simple game by licensing it in a variety of different ways. If there’s a public holiday coming up, there’s a good chance you might just see a new version of Angry Birds. We’ve also seen a new clothing line, plush toys and an unofficial theme park crop up. The birds are even going into space with Angry Birds Space coming out on March 22nd.
With all of the success that Angry Birds has had, you may wonder why Rovio would like to branch out into other directions, but that’s exactly what the company is doing. I guess you can say that they don’t want to keep all of their eggs in one basket. In a recent interview that Rovio’s CEO Mikael Hed gave to All Things Digital, Hed did confirm that there is a new game project on the horizon for the company. Although he didn’t provide any details beyond this teaser, there is now public interest brewing as to what exactly this new game will be. He did say that we should be hearing the game title in a few months and of course, once the game is released, naturally, the comparisons to Angry Birds will begin.
