As a young lad, you may have had a bike light that was pedal powered, getting brighter the faster you pedaled and dimming when you slowed down. RollerGen uses the same concept of pedal power to recharge the gadgets of today.
RollerGen is a product of Santa Clara, CA based High Tide and was nominated for the 2010 greener gadgets design competition. RollerGen is a bike mounted high power generator that can create ten times the power of some of the other commercial bicycle generators using strictly the renewable resource of the human body, leg power.
As you ride, the device generates energy which is stored in a small battery called BOS (bar of soap). This stored energy can then be used to power any USB gadget be it a mobile phone, GPS unit, iPhone or any other gadgets and gizmos you may be packing.
I’m sure this product works well in fair weather conditions, but how well does it work in the rain? It also seems to be quite expensive, priced at $495.
