Google’s mobile operating system, Android OS has really grown beyond just the smartphone market. The Google OS can be found on tablet computers, netbooks, and earlier today came news that Android would be a key component of Google TV. We’re now hearing that Google Android will also debut in the Roewe 350, making it the first Android powered automobile.
Specifically, it will be the DVD and GPS system that will be powered by Android 2.1. With the new technology, motorists will have available at their fingertips, real time local traffic reports as well as direct web access. There will also be a chat application included that will make use of VoIP (Voice over IP) though at this time, it is unclear as to exactly how the Roewe 350 will establish an Internet connection. Will it be through the use of the 3G network or by means of an installed WWAN card?
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen mobile Internet technology being an important consideration in the vehicle design as the Ford Sync announced late last year promised Internet access using the Sync system and the motorists own USB mobile broadband modem.
