RIM BlackPad Will Use A Custom QNX OS

In April of the year, Research In Motion purchased QNX System Software and it looks like the time has come to put the knowledge and products of the new company to good use. RIM’s upcoming tablet computer is the BlackPad and when it launches, it will most likely do so with a custom QNX operating system.

Originally, it was believed that the BlackPad would launch with BlackBerry 6, but RIM has had a change of heart, possibly from seeing the challenges that Apple has had upscaling their iOS for the iPad. The belief is that RIM will have an easier time to rollout the BlackPad with a brand new OS instead of having to try and put out fires that arise from using a legacy OS.

It looks like both the hardware and now the software are in place for the RIM tablet which will most likely be known as the BlackPad with RIM also securing the rights to the domain that goes by the same name.
