Research In Motion (RIM) may be another company looking to come out with its own tablet offering. The findings come by way of a discovery that RIM is ordering an 8.9-inch tablet from Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision) and if everything was to go according to schedule, the first RIM tablets could be available by late summer or early fall of this year.
It’s unclear if the tablet would be deployed with the BlackBerry operating system or perhaps another open source OS. Wireless network connectivity through both 3G and WiFi will be a standard on this device, thereby allowing for synchronization with other BlackBerry devices. There is also talk that the units may also be subsidized through advertising, making it a more affordable tablet. What’s not known at this time is whether the BlackBerry tablet (or BerryTab) would be a standalone device or a companion tablet that would augment other RIM offerings.
