Research In Motion has released a new smartphone in the BlackBerry Bold 9780. Following on the heels of the BlackBerry Torch, the 9780 is the second model to come with BlackBerry 6 OS. As such, the 9780 comes complete with the latest WebKit browser and from a hardware perspective, the BlackBerry smartphone comes equipped with 512MB flash memory, a 5MP digital camera and a memory card slot that supports up to 32GB of external storage space.
Unlike the Torch, this model BlackBerry follows the form factor of earlier models and includes an optical trackpad and has a traditional keyboard layout. You will be able to pick up the 9780 from a variety of different mobile carriers starting in November.
Overall, the 9780 looks fairly typical to other models that we’ve seen, but no doubt, it’s the operating system, BlackBerry OS6 that is the talk of the town. According to Carlo Chiarello, a VP with RIM, OS6 promises to deliver “a wide range of enhancements including a rich new user interface, a fast and powerful WebKit-based browser, broadly improved communications and multimedia capabilities, [and] an incredibly useful Universal Search feature”.
