The struggling Canadian based technology company Research In Motion has announced that they will be coming out with a 4G model of their BlackBerry PlayBook in Canada in one weeks time.
The exact launch date is August 9th. Initially, it will be a 4G LTE tablet model that will be available but the company has also confirmed that other variants are also on the way. At the time of launch, the BlackBerry Playbook will come with OS 2.0.1 installed as well as 32GB of on board storage. As a side note, customers that already have a WiFi only model can update the OS on the Playbook as a maintenance update.
Research In Motion has also confirmed that Canada is now the first country in the world to receive and release a 4G model. Over time, RIM expects to launch similar cellular supporting tablets within the United States, the Caribbean, South Africa, Europe and Latin America. Each of these models will of course need some tweaking to comply with local regulations as well as be compatible with the regional cellular networks.
What are your thoughts? If you are in the market for a tablet, are you excited by the fact that RIM has a 4G tablet or are you leaning more towards another model from a competing company.
