Documents To Go is a mobile office suite that has been developed by the software maker DataViz. The sotware app is functional on a number of mobile platforms including Android, BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone and Windows Mobile.
However, the days of this app being available as a cross-platform suite could possibly be coming to an end after it was reported that Research In Motion (RIMM) has purchased DataViz for $50 million. Shortly after this news came to light, DataViz expressed their intention to discontinue development for Palm and in a press statement by RIM, the BlackBerry maker said “RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform.”
Although RIM hasn’t come out and overtly confirmed that they are discontinuing support for all platforms just yet, it is clear that the emphasis will be now be on BlackBerry. Still, others in the industry like CNET do see some potential for RIM to allow DataViz to continue as business as normal because there is a lot of profit to be made selling Documents To Go for the iPhone at $15 a piece.
