According to a report from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), it would appear that progress on the RIM (TSE:RIM) Blackberry tablet is coming along nicely. Similar to what was reported earlier, the Blackberry OS 6.0 tablet will function as a companion device for a BB smartphone and will feature a QWERTY slide out keyboard.
The BlackBerry smartphone in this pair is the BlackBerry 9800 and though many of these details have been discussed over the last little while, this is the first time that a mainstream publication has picked up on the reports, adding even more weight to the story. It’s believed that connectivity between the tablet and the smartphone will occur through a wireless 3G connection eluding to the possibility of bundled packages with tethered data plans.
The end of this year is likely the earliest we will see the BlackBerry tablet and RIM will have their job cut out for them if they want to carve a niche in this market that is quickly being dominated by the iPad, the Android tablets and all the other variants that are flooding the market.
