Texte-ile is the name of this unique chair that is made from PC keyboards. The chair was part of the UMUL 2009 project (Use More, Use Less) which stresses re-use design and go green ideas.
In order for this project to advance, the designers Dante Bonuccelli and Lamm used keyboards of the same model and dimensions.
In most cases, getting this many keyboards would be a challenge, but they were able to source large quantities of keyboards through a partnership between Voice Systems and DAGAD. Voice Systems offers IT support to people with visual disabilities and as part of their support, they provide their customers with a VOICEbox which can automatically read onscreen text. This device integrates directly with the workstation, making the keyboard redundant and it was this supply of keyboards that formed the basis for the Texte-ile chair.
