Radioactive Uranium Marbles | Unusual Gadgets

As kids, we used to play a lot of simple but fun games like shooting marbles. We’d take our bag of marbles to the playground and entertain ourselves for quite some time before we got bored and moved onto something else. In all the years that we played marbles, we never had something quite like radioactive uranium marbles.

These marbles contain 3% uranium-238 (by weight) which is added to the glass while it’s still in a molten state. Because of the presence of uranium, the marbles exhibit the characteristics of radioactivity including glowing under UV (black) light, and if for whatever reason you have a sensitive Geiger Counter, it will detect the radiation as well.

The marbles are said to be harmless and safe to handle, but I probably wouldn’t walk through an airport checkpoint with a handful of these marbles in my pocket.
