The Mobile World Congress really looks like it’s building up to a weeks worth of interesting news. There’s talk about the new Bada OS powered Samsung phone that might get unveiled on Sunday night and now there’s even more evidence that Microsoft may have a few tricks up its sleeve for next week.
There have always been rumors that Microsoft was working on their own smartphone which was going under the codename Project Pink. Under this project, it was believed that two mobile phones would be developed and at the time, they were given the temporary names of Turtle and Dove.
Recently, an FCC filing surfaced that included a single picture of a mobile phone made my Sharp. This phone appears to have the same shape and characteristics of a mockup picture that was circulating last year of the Turtle phone. The story is as follows. Sharp submitted the application for a handset that they are working on. This is the same electronics company that developed the T-Mobile Sidekick for Danger which by the way was subsequently bought out by Microsoft in 2008. Add to this a recent Zune MP3 player desktop software upgrade hinting at new mobile devices and next week we should have some kind of an announcement about a Windows Phone 7.
