Project Natal – Full Body Motion Control System

Microsoft unveiled it’s new control system known as Xbox 360 Project Natal.

Project Natal - Full Body Motion Control System

Similar to the Wii gaming system, Project Natal will use a sensor bar that will rest above your television set.

What makes this a next generation console game is that the unit incorporates a camera, microphone and sensor that can accurately position the game player within the spatial environment.

As such, game controllers like those included with the Wii are no longer required. Instead, the sensor bar can recognize your hand and foot movements and accurately include them in the game play.

Project Natal will also include voice recognition and facial recognition so that the system will recognize the user and sign him into the gaming console. A system such as this does conjure up mental images of Minority Report menu systems. This gaming unit does make the Wii look outdated but I’m sure they’ll counter with a revision of their own.

Actually, the demo I saw had the bar below the set.
It was awesome, but I kept thinking, it can’t possibly be that precise.

That’s true, I’ve seen the sensor bar placed both above and below the TV.
