Netbooks are growing in popularity as they lightweight, cheap and offer easy and portable internet access. With all of these advantages, there are downsides, with one of them being the absence of an optical drive as netbook manufacturers often offer online storage or suggest consumers rely upon flash drives.
Pioneer has released the DVR-XD09 DVD/CD burner. Catering towards the mobile market, this external drive is the “industry’s most compact design to date”, weighing just 8 ounces and only slightly larger then a CD jewel case.
The Pioneer drive does not require an external power supply as a standard USB connection provides both data and power to the device. The optical drive supports a variety of CD formats including dual-layer DVD-R discs that have a maximum storage capacity of 8.5GB.
Expect to see the Pioneer DVR-XD09 retail this August for $79.99.
