Digital camera manufacturer Pentax announced the release of the Optio W80. An update to its predecessor, the Optio W60, the W80 would be classified as a rugged digital camera.
This highly durable compact camera is coldproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, dustproof, shockproof and waterproof. According to Pentax, this camera is considered “more adventure-proof than ever”.
Outside of its durability, the Pentax Optio W80 comes with a 2.5-inch LCD display, 12 megapixel of optical resolution, 5x internal optical zoom and a 28mm wide-angle lens. The W80 also supports HD video recording (720p, 360fps) and includes controls for face detection, smile capture and blink detection.
The one main downside to the Pentax camera is the absence of optical image stabilization as the W80 only includes Pentax’s digital Pixel Track SR.
Expect to see the Optio W80 this July. MSRP will be $300 and a variety of color choices will be available including “Cardinal Red,” “Azure Blue,” and “Gunmetal Gray”.
