These days, kids are receiving a formal education on computer technology and basic typing skills while still in their early school years. The result of this is more children are comfortable with computers and are thus coming online at an earlier age.
Catering to this niche market is PeeWee, a tech company that has developed a netbook for kids. Called the PeeWee Power Laptop, this device has a rugged design with a spill proof keyboard, something one would expect and require in a new netbook whose target audience is children between the ages of 4 and 8.
The unit is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor and comes with 1GB RAM, a 10-inch screen display with 1024×600 pixel resolution and features WiFi network connectivity, 3 USB 2.0 data ports, 1.3MP digital camera and a 6-cell battery.
As the device offers Internet access to young children, several software titles are preloaded to protect kids online. These include PeeWee Patrol and PeeWee Privacy. PeeWee Patrol offers parental controls, Internet website blocking and monitoring technology whereas PeeWee Privacy can be used to restrict access to critical files and folders on the device itself.
The PeeWee Power Laptop sells for $500.
