Tablet computers might be the in gadget these days with offerings such as the Apple iPad and the X2 iTablet, but where these devices take the high road with a more delicate finish, Panasonic gets down and dirty with their rugged tablet called the Toughbook H1 Field.

Like other rugged devices before it, the Panasonic rugged tablet is designed to take some abuse and as such, has been designed for use by law enforcement, field personnel, and maintenance workers.

The Panasonic tablet is powered by a 1.8 GHz Intel Atom processor and includes a 10.4-inch touchscreen that is sunlight readable, a practical addition for outdoor use. Additionally, included under the hood is 2GB RAM, a 64GB solid state drive, WiFi and Bluetooth technology, a camera as well as a barcode and RFID scanner. There are also twin swappable batteries with each battery offering six hours of battery life.

Weighing in at 3.4 lbs, the Toughbook H1 comes standard with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system although optionally, consumers can also choose to purchase it with XP or Vista.

As a rugged device, the unit is compliant with both IP65 and MIL-STD-810G standards and can survive a six foot drop. It can also withstand the usual rain, dust, spill and shock damage.

Starting price for the Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field Tablet is $3,379.
