
Panasonic’s (Public, NYSE:PC) rugged Toughbook 19 is getting some upgrades in the form of a faster Intel processor. The rugged device that weighs in at 5.1 pounds is moving from an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 (clock speed 1.2Ghz) to a Core i5 i5-540UM vProTM 1.2GHz CPU that supports turbo boosts up to 2.0GHz.
The operating system on the unit has also been upgraded from Microsoft Vista to Windows 7 Professional, but users do have the option of electing to downgrade to Windows XP if desired. Some of the other features on the Panasonic Toughbook include a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, 2GB DDR3 RAM, shock resistant 160GB SATA HD, Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n network support, digital fingerprint and smartcard reader.
