We’ve covered our fair share of autonomous robots. Although many were developed in the name of science and research, we have seen a few that are designed for the consumer market such as the Asus EeeBot. As well, we’ve also seen some designers take their robotic devices to a whole new personal level.

Palro, which stands for Pal Robot, falls into the latter category as Fujisoft does plan on releasing him to the public. Palro measures 39.8cm in height and has a weight of 1.6kg, making him portable and easy to carry. In terms of features, this friendly robot comes packed with voice recognition software, a 3 megapixel digital camera, and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.
Palro runs on an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor and includes 1GB RAM along with 4GB of flash memory, a gyro-sensor and is the open source Ubuntu operating system. Palro is also powered with a lithium ion battery.
This remote control gadget will be available later this year at a price of $3,300 with the first 1000 units going to a research institute in the middle of March. Until then, there is a YouTube video of Palro to keep us entertained.
