Origin 1TB Hard Drive

Origin Storage has announced their Data Locker Secure Drive that places a strong emphasis on data security. The 1TB external USB hard drive comes with built-in hardware encryption.

Available in two versions, the Enterprise edition features 256bit AES encryption while the Pro edition comes with 128bit encryption. Decrypting data stored on the drive can be accomplished by entering your 18 digit personal password on the LCD screen housed on the device.

A cool feature of the Origin drive is it’s auto destruct feature. According to the manufacturer, if the drive detects that spyware or malware has managed to make it’s way on the drive, the unit will recognize it and scrub the data to ensure that there is no data leak. For the ultra-conscious, this can be a great security feature, but of course you have to make sure that you have a good data backup plan so that you can recover your data should the need arise.

The external 1TB drives will retail for $650.
