Android 2.2 was announced in early summer and the onus then moved to the various mobile carriers as to when they elected to deploy the latest Google OS version to their various Android phones. HTC Desire owners on the Orange UK network are one group of mobile users that have been anxiously waiting news about when their phones would receive an over the air (OTA) update.
Unfortunately, if you happen to be on this network, the word is that Android 2.2 (Froyo) will not be available until the middle of September. Although there is no clear indication for the cause of the delay, some network carriers have delayed the release of Froyo as they test its stability and add other carrier specific features.
This isn’t the first time that Orange UK has had to delay an Android update as they also had to delay the Android 2.1 update to the HTC Hero by over a month.
What are your thoughts on this. Are you comfortable with Android 2.1 on your HTC Desire, or are there features in Android 2.2 that you can’t wait to have access to?

I think it’s disgusting that Orange can’t get thier act together. I also understand that the operating system will be cluttered with orange apps that I have to then delete. Once my contract runs out with Orange I will not renew as they are not professional to provide an efficient service and this is just another example. I am fed up with calling them and fed up with checking my system update to see if it is there yet. Originally they told me the new system upgrade is coming soon (July 2010) and thats why I renewed my contract, I told them I wanted BBC iplayer which needs the 2.2 operating system and what they told me has transpired to be lies.
