This February, a legitimate and fully approved Sega Ultimate Genesis emulator will be available for download on the Apple iPhone though their app store. The virtual console is a free download and will come with one game title, Space Harrier II.

Additional classic game titles will be then be available for purchase for anywhere between $2.99 and $5.99. Some of the first games available will be Ecco the Dolphin, Shining Force, Golden Axe and Sonic the Hedgehog.

You may have already noticed that some of these Sega games such as Sonic the Hedgehog have always been available as a standalone download, but the objective of the Genesis Emulator is to package everything under the banner of a single app as well as entice you to buy games. After all, there is only so much Space Harrier II that you’re going to be able to play before you’re itching to try a new game.

The Sega Genesis Emulator will now join the Commodore 64 app, another game emulator that became available through the app store last year.
