Some Mac users have been waiting for this bit of news for a while, and apparently they’ll be getting their wish — Microsoft will be announcing Office For Mac 2011 at MacWorld for release later this year. It’s no surprise that Microsoft is listening very closely to the needs of the Mac community and is trying to address their needs as well as have more interaction with this highly important community.
Office For Mac 2011 will sport a new user interface, and have “Presence Everywhere” — a co-authoring feature that lets multiple users work on Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files from various locations. Co-authored documents will also be updated in real time as changes are made, complete with information on who made which changes when (and maybe even why).
Office For Mac 2011 will also connect to Microsoft Office Web Apps to access files from any device connected to the Internet. Outlook for Mac will also be part of the new Office, replacing Entourage. The new Outlook will be able to import PST files from Outlook for Windows, a feature Mac users have apparently been looking for.
There’s still no definite launch date for Office For Mac 2011, but you can follow the development team on Twitter at @OfficeforMac.
