Novo Minoru 3D Webcam

If the Novo Minoru 3D webcam delivers on what it promises to do, it will introduce consumers to a new experience in home video conferencing. Minoru in Japanese means reality and this little camera will allow you to broadcast in 3D.

From a technical perspective, the eyes of Wall-E, errr the 3D Webcam are two separate lenses that are approximately spaced the same distance apart as human eyes. Both lenses will capture individual video which the processor will then mix together. You will need those silly looking 3D glasses to view a proper video because without them, the final video will look blurry and out of focus.

Of course, this means that if you purchase this webcam, you will need to buy your friends 3D glasses if they can’t dig there old ones out of the closet. The interesting claim made by Novo is that the Minoru 3D Webcam is compliant with current browsing technologies. You will not need any special software to view the video and it will even work with IM and YouTube.

The Minoru will ship in December 2008, just in time for Christmas. I can’t help but think that Wall-E toys will be stocking stuffers this Christmas and for Novo to give their webcam a personality reminiscent of Wall-E will do nothing but increase sales. Cost is set at about $100 USD.
