Nova DSLR Concept Camera

These days, we are seeing a convergence of technology where gadgets and gizmos are becoming multifunctional. Take for instance, cellphone technology which for some time now have come with an integrated digital camera so that pretty much anyone anywhere can snap a candid picture and send it via email or upload to a photo sharing site or social networking site with just a few key clicks.

Nova DSLR

Erin Fong, a student at the California College of the arts has developed a concept design that combines the style of a cellphone camera with the performance one would expect from a true DSLR camera. Her design, which is known as the Nova DSLR moves away from the traditional DSLR camera design and includes twin arms upon which all the functional keys are found so that they are always within easy reach of the photographer. The setup of the arms is similar in appearance to a boomerang design.

The twin arms are also adjustable and can be positioned based upon user preference. Hence, both left handed and right handed photographers are accommodated as the arms can move to either side of the camera lens. Additionally, the arms can also be brought together to mimic digital photography from a mobile phone.

It is an interesting camera concept to say the least but it isn’t without its limitations. Although camera phones are improving in terms of their pixel resolution and other features, they are essentially designed for spur of the moment photography or “point and shoot”. A DSLR is more for the serious photographer interested in better quality pictures. As such, it does have some limitations such as the absence of a tripod for mounting.
