The Finnish phone maker Nokia (NYSE:NOK), has announced that they are coming out with a gold edition of their Nokia N97 smartphone. We’ve seen may mobile phones being offered as luxury items but often, these sorts of offerings come by way of independent artists such as Stuart Hughes. It’s a bit unusual to see gadgets such as these being announced by Nokia.
As the name implies, the Mini Gold Edition comes dressed in 18 Carat gold. It also has a few extras thrown in such as “ELLE 360Fashion news”, a software application that lets the mobile user keep up with the latest in fashion trends.
Outside of that, the Mini Gold Edition runs on the same hardware as the N97, a smartphone that received poor reviews due to performance issues and software bugs. The N97 Mini Gold Edition includes a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with 360 x 640 pixel resolution, a slide out full QWERTY keyboard, 8GB internal storage with a microSD card slot offering an optional upgrade to 16GB memory, 5MP camera with autofocus and Carl Zeiss optics as well as 3G, WiFi and HSDPA connectivity.
Pricing on the Nokia N97 Mini Gold Edition smartphone has been set at $847 with Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East being the target markets, though no firm release date has been announced.
