Nokia has been busy as of late with their technology release announcements. Yesterday, was the announcement for the Nokia 5230 touchscreen phone, earlier in the week it was the Booklet 3G Netbook and today, they’ve announced the N900 mobile phone.

The N900 mobile phone is designed upon the Linux Maemo operating system. Although based upon Linux, Nokia has indicated that this device will be a workhorse, capable of running dozens of applications as well as acting as a phone.

The N900 has some strong hardware incorporated into it’s design including an ARM Cortex A8 that includes 1GB application memory, OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration, a WVGA touchscreen display, a full slide out QWERTY keyboard and 32GB of memory that can be upgraded to 48GB. A nice feature for digital photographers is the inclusion of a 5 megapixel camera.

According to Nokia Executive Vice President of Markets Anssi Vanjoki, the Nokia smart phone will provide users with a “PC-like experience.”

Expect to see the new phone retail this October for about EUR500.
