Nintendo games have been the cornerstone of the video game market for quite some time, but in recent years, the game maker has seen a steady decline in sales for their portable DS console. One of the reasons for this drop can be attributed to the rise of multifunctional smartphones that not only provide a communication role, but also serve as a personal entertainment system.
Its because of this that some shareholders are questioning Nintendo’s future road map for development and are asking if Nintendo plans to get into third party game development for the Google Android and the Apple iOS platform. According to Chief Executive Officer and President Satoru Iwata, because “Nintendo is defined by integrated hardware and software” and “Others are incompatible with the values Nintendo puts into its hardware. We won’t produce software [for them] at all.”
Wow, replace Satoru Iwata with Steve Jobs and you’ve got a statement very reminiscent of what you would hear from the CEO of Apple.
