Nintendo 3DS Game Console

Nintendo 3DS Game Console

The next generation Nintendo game console has been confirmed. Known as the Nintendo 3DS, its biggest selling feature will be 3D game support with one main difference. Apparently, the 3D glasses that are so common these days will not be required to use the device.

We expect the Nintendo console to debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) trade show which is being held in Los Angeles, California on June 15, 2010. To succeed the Nintendo DSi, the 3DS does have a challenge in front of it as the DSi enjoyed sales of 125 million units that was reported in December of last year.

However, the DSi does have a few things going for it that should ease the transition of gamers to the new platform. Of course there is 3D, but the 3DS will also be backwards compatible so your favorite DSi software titles will still work on the new handheld device. There is some talk that the 3DS may not be the final name that Nintendo settles on and that a possible renaming could occur prior to or at the E3 tradeshow. However, Nintendo is anxious to get their next game console into the hands of the paying customer so it is expected to be available very quickly in electronic retail outlets at at online stores soon after it debuts at the E3.
