The Reuters news organization is reporting that Google is gearing up to refresh their Nexus 7 tablet. According to the Reuter’s sources, the new tablet is expected to launch this July and like past updates, a big push will be on upgrading the hardware components.
While these are still rumours, it’s believed that off the top, we can expect the display screen to be upgraded to include a higher resolution. The tablet itself will also feature a thinner bezel which will then accommodate the edge to edge display while the tablet itself will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Asus will remain the hardware partner of choice and according to projected estimates, we could see more then 8 million units being shipped in the last half of this year. What is not known at this time is just what will occur to the current Nexus 7. Google has a couple of choices in this area and could either phase out the unit with the launch of the new model, or alternatively, the old model could be discounted and offered for a rock bottom price. In this regards, we’ll have to take a wait and see approach to see just how Google decides to handle this.
