With all of the talk about Google Android phones and other new devices that could be considered iPhone killers, you knew that Apple [AAPL] wouldn’t just remain idle. MacRumors is reporting that a new Apple iPhone is being field tested.
The evidence for this iPhone news comes by way of an analytics report that Pandav, an iPhone application developer received. The report, which was provided by Pinch Media, shows an unusual entry of “iPhone 3,1″. The iPhone 3GS is labeled in the report as “iPhone 1,2″, so what could be an “iPhone 3,1″?
Generally speaking, these reports have picked up mystery gadgets about 8 months prior to their official launch. This was the case with the iPhone 3GS where the reports were showing an “iPhone 1,2″ entry roughly 8 months before it’s launch date. If the trend was to continue, it would mean that the summer of 2010 could be when we see a new version of the iPhone and this would lineup approximately with their annual productroll-out date.
