We’ve seen lots of 3D televisions launch this year and most require 3D shutter glasses which is not only an extra cost, but also a nuisance when all you want to do is watch TV in your home.
Newsight has announced their new 3D TV that requires no glasses, and at 70-inches, it could very well be the largest 3D screen size available at this time. As to how Newsight got away from the 3D glasses lies in the underlying technology which is called parallax barrier technology.
The Newsight TV comes with an additional screen with slits that are positioned in front of the LCD panel thereby allowing each eye to see a slightly different image. Together, these images combine to mimic a 3D image for the viewer. What’s not clear at this time is if there is an optimal angle for watching TV. Will 3D images be only viewable when you are directly in front of the TV or will you still see the 3D effect if you are sitting more to the side of the TV?
