Several of the Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) products have memorable system halt messages, most notably the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) that crops up on the Windows operating system. The first edition Xbox 360 had it’s own stop error that was marked by the Red Ring of Death when the game console was overheating.
The new Xbox 360 Slim will take a friendlier approach with its warning messages. In situations of overheating, you’ll get the message “The Xbox 360 is shutting down to protect the console from insufficient ventilation. You can turn the console back on after the power light stops flashing.”
It’s nice to see that Microsoft is using error messages that detail the actual cause of the error which may help some users in finding better locations for their consoles where ventilation does not become an issue.
