Nintendo Wii HD console

When the Wii first came out, it was an impressive gaming console as it brought a new level of interactivity that gamers were not accustomed to. Fast forward to today and the Wii feels a bit stale with the lack of new game titles and it’s 480p resolution.

According to Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, it appears that Nintendo is planning on modernizing the Wii by adding HD (high definition) capabilities similar to that present on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. In addition to this, the Wii will also receive a new motion controller.

Sounds great, unfortunately it looks like we’ll have to wait until 2011 before it becomes commercially available.

He’s a moron, first off if they were going to release a Wii HD in 2011, they’d have to announce it next E3, Nintendo always announces two E3′s in advance of launch, but they aren’t, because next year is Zelda/Mario/Metroid and the Wii vitality sensor, so it won’t happen next year, so that means E3 2011 at the earliest, which means a late 2012 launch at the earliest, but that will only happen if Wii sales slow really far and price cuts are no longer helpful, so a 2013 launch is more likely.

The reason Wada is saying that he expects a Wii HD, is becuase he bet wrong, he banked on the PS3 and 360 to a lesser degree, only to see Wii come in and dominate, so now he has to keep his investors placated or lose his job, so he’s saying Wii HD in 2011, so that he won’t have to explain why Square isn’t shifting to Wii
