New iPad 2 May Feature Thin Bezel, Larger Speakers, Flat Back

by Mike on December 23, 2010

Next year is when we can most likely expect to see the launch of the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2. Every so often, we seem to come across rumors and bits of information that pertain to both devices and today, it appears that there are some new iPad 2 rumors that are circulating.

If correct, the iPad 2 will have a flat back, thinner bezel and bigger speakers. According to reports, the iPad 2 will still maintain a 9.7-inch screen display, but the bezel will be 3-inches thinner. This means that the Apple tablet will have a smaller form factor that could measure approximately 239 mm x 186 mm, bringing it down from the current 242.8 mm x 189.7 mm.

The bigger speakers that we’ve heard about will most likely be positioned on the bottom edge of the device and will extend into the back panel of the unit. This information does lend credence to a leaked report from last month which detailed the iPad 2 case with similar details.

The last bit of iPad 2 news going around is that it will be like the iPhone 4 in the sense that it will have a flat back. The advantage of this is that the unit will then rest comfortably on a flat table.

These are of course rumors, so until Apple finally reveals the device, always take this with a pinch of salt, but it’s nice to see some of the thoughts that are circulating. Todays information now adds to the body of information that details the Apple tablet which we also expect will have a high resolution screen, integrated cameras for FaceTime video chat and possibly more RAM and a faster processor.
