New Apple iPhone Worm In The Wild

Apple iPhone Worm

It wasn’t to long ago that we heard news of the first worm that was attacking jailbroken iPhones. Although that particular worm wasn’t overly nasty, causing the iPhone to be “Rick Rolled”, the latest outbreak is highly malicious.

The new worm exploits the same vulnerabilities as the earlier worm. Named ‘Duh’ or ‘IKee.B’, the worm affects hacked iPhones that have enabled SSH and use the default root password. Under these specific circumstances, the worm will infect the Apple [NSDQ:AAPL] device, installing two start-up scripts, the first to execute the worm on boot-up and the second to initiate a connection to a server in Lithuania where it will begin to upload stolen data and content as well as provide access to the bot master.

If you have a jailbroken iPhone that is now experiencing poor battery life, this may be one symptom of infection. According to Apple, the recommended course of action in this case is to restore the default firmware in iTunes.
