Netgear is releasing their next big model – the WNR3500L, or the RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router with USB. As far as Wireless-N routers go, it delivers high-performance wireless speed and range, and can hook up with various devices using Gigabit Ethernet ports and ReadyShare USB storage access. But where it really shines is the fact that it’s designed as an open-source Linux platform that offers a flexible, supportive environment for Netgear’s partners and other open-source developers.
Netgear’s partners in the industry include Leaf Networks (who specialize in remote access), Bigfoot Networks (specializing in improving online gaming experience), Sputnik (hotspot solutions), and Paragon Software (for high-speed USB file operations).
The WNR3500L Router packs a 480MHz MIPS 74K processor core, plus 64MB of RAM and 8MB of flash memory – enough to run tough business-class operations. It also offers five 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, with WAN to LAN speeds topping 350Mbps.
This little baby doesn’t slack off when it comes to security, either – it prevents Denial-of-service attacks and comes with a double firewall. Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) technology will also let users block out any potentially harmful computers from the network.
If the WNR3500L sounds like just what your company is looking for, get ready to shell out $139.99 when it comes out later in the season.

How Cool! I so excited there is an open source router now! I recently got the Netgear WNDR 3700 and I am loving it!! I don’t plan on switching yet, but if you’re in the market – I recommend this one too!
I use a Linksys with DD-WRT … same features basically, but it’s nice that a company is allowing it out of the box, without voiding warranties! If this was out when I purchased my router, I would have bought it, seeing as how mine was around $120.
