Xbox 360 owners love the idea that they can stream any HD movie from Netflix instantly, even if the console itself doesn’t support Blu-Ray (yet, at least). What made the idea all the more appealing was that it was an exclusive deal — no other device had that kind of Netflix support.
But of course, nothing stays exclusive in this industry forever — either the deal expands to where the profit is, or someone else comes along with an even better offering. Netflix is going for the former, and has announced that instant HD movie streaming will soon be available in another device.
Yup, that’s it — no word on exactly what that device is going to be.
There has been a lot of speculation as to where Netflix is going to land next — is it the Apple’s iPhone? Google’s Android platform? On the Shuffle? (Just kidding.) But many experts believe the winner is the Sony PlayStation 3. The PS3 wasn’t doing so well until it slimmed down and went back on the shelves with a lighter price tag. Skyrocketing sales and a great online service should be a very tempting landing spot for Netflix.
Let’s see what happens.
