The iPill is Philips latest medical gadget, expected to provide physicians with detailed information regarding medical condition of the digestive tract of a patient. The iPill has a built in camera and is swallowed with a glass of water. As the pill makes it’s way through the digestive tract, it takes PH readings as well as administers medicine either as a slow release or in quick bursts, depending upon the type of programming that it was given.
Once the pill has completed it’s job, it will pass through the body when “nature calls”. Philips Research expects that the iPill will be beneficial in the treatment of GI disorders such as Crohn’s disease, colitis, and colon cancer.
